Self-care for your astrological moon sign

All of us experience moments in life where we’re down in the dumps for no apparent reason at all. Sometimes it just feels like a dark little cloud won’t stop following us around. If this is happening to you, it’s very possible to revive your soul by focusing on what makes your moon sign feel happy. 

In astrology, where the moon was located when you were born determines your inner emotional landscape. Your moon is going to be placed in a zodiac sign and house, so knowing both of these will help you determine what you need to feel stable, safe, secure and emotionally fulfilled. Here’s a picture of my birth chart. You can see the blue moon symbol is placed in Capricorn in the 4th house of home and family. Capricorn is a rather serious sign that likes to work hard and plan for the future, so the moon doesn’t really like to be there. However, it loves the 4th house, which is traditionally ruled by Cancer and relates to all things home, family and ancestral roots. So, I know if I’m feeling down, I need to spend time at home with my family and planning and preparing for future success. These things will bring me optimism and make me feel more stable and secure. 

Now, let’s determine what your moon sign needs based on those two factors. Take a look at the charts below and mix the energies in order to determine what you need in order to feel rebalanced and emotionally satisfied. 

Houses

  1. Self-love, financial stability, creature comforts
  2. Community, socializing, writing, traveling around your city, self-expression
  3. Time at home and with family, traditions
  4. Time for hobbies, creativity, romance, light-hearted fun, children, attention from others, vacation
  5. Routine, community service, healthy food and exercise, work
  6. Your intimate, chosen relationships (or partner)
  7. Interest in taboo/occult topics, human psychology, investments, tantric sex, spirituality
  8. Foreign things, long-distance travel, learning, publishing, religion, philosophy
  9. Ambition, career, responsibility, public standing
  10. Dreams for future, humanitarianism, friends
  11. Spirituality, working with your subconscious mind, time in isolation

Now that you know what sorts of topics will soothe your soul, let’s mix this with the type of energy you need to focus on by looking at the zodiac sign and their accompanying self-care strategy. 

Aries: Passionate, bold, decisive, courageous
Self-care strategy: Exercise, passionate hobbies

Taurus: Slow and stable, artistic, sensual, comfort-seeking
Self-care strategy: Good food, time relaxing with loved ones

Gemini: Frenetic, quick-thinking, multi-tasking, fun-seeking
Self-care strategy: Talking with friends, writing, being sociable

Cancer: Emotional, family-focused, comfort-seeking
Self-care strategy: Time at home with family or loved ones

Leo: Soulful, attention-seeking, childlike, fun-seeking, brave
Self-care strategy: Leading a fun, group activity

Virgo: Methodical, systematic, focused, organized, detail-oriented, productive, analytical
Self-care strategy: Checking things off your to-do list

Libra: Balanced, beauty-seeking, sociable, people-focused
Self-care strategy: Lighting a candle and taking a bubble bath with your S.O.

Scorpio: Deep, pensive, adaptable, mysterious, internally-focused, intuitive
Self-care strategy: Escape Rooms or watching a psychological thriller

Sagittarius: Desire to learn, adventurous, optimistic, curious, passionate
Self-care strategy: Traveling to far-off places, learning 

Capricorn: Serious, future and goal-oriented, ambitious, grounded, logical
Self-care strategy: Planning your goals and tasks for the future

Aquarius: Revolutionary, community-focused, thoughtful, innovative
Self-care strategy: Volunteering, creating something new and unique

Pisces: Sensitive, emotional, intuitive, dreamy, peaceful
Self-care strategy: Art, swimming, dream journaling

Let’s take a few examples to illustrate how you can interpret this with the houses. For example, say I have a Pisces moon in the first house. This means I would really benefit from swimming in the ocean and maybe painting or taking pictures on the beach while I’m out there. 

If I have a Sagittarius moon in the 10th house, maybe I would feel most secure when traveling and learning for something that would help my career and long-term goals. 

If I had a Taurus moon in the 7th house, I would benefit from having a lavish weekend staycation with my significant other, feeding each other divine food and wine. 

There are so many ways to interpret this! I hope you find what makes you feel your most secure. Remember, we should also consider our sun sign and placement as well in order to lift our mood and disposition. 

With both of these taken into account, your soul will feel completely nurtured.
